The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has its reputation for taking up wide-ranging social issues involving inter alia women’s rights and dignity, but it appears to be an irony when the lone woman judge of SC prefers to call marriage of her two daughters as her “liabilities”.
Justice Gyan Sudha Misra has listed “two daughters to be married” against the liability column as seen in the official website of the Supreme Court in its “assets of sitting judges” page.
Justice Misra has also mentioned about her standing as “guarantor for education” of one of her two daughters. The other liability as shown by Justice Misra, former Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, in the website is“residential house to be built post retirement”.
This has already caused a furore among those sects of the society who are working fingers to bone for Gender Equality and a senior counsel has called it as manifestation of a “retrograde mindset”.
The declaration of marriage of daughter as a “liability” is something which has never been heard of well, at least from Hon’ble Supreme Court Judges.
The thought that baffles me is whether she would have listed Sons who are yet to be married if she has any, as assets.
Nicely written da..but no matter how much we try to deny it, dowry is a reality...Even though women's rights activists would make a fuzz out of the incident, I cant see why the lady should be blamed for being truthful?
